The Astrebla Downs National Park (English Astrebla Downs National Park ) is a 1740 km² large protected area in the Australian state of Queensland . The national park was established in 1999.
location
It is isolated in the outback , about 1300 kilometers west of Brisbane . The closest place is Bedourie . However, there is no connection from there to the national park, especially since the park is not open to the public.
Flora and fauna
The national park plays an important role in the conservation of the great rabbit-nosed whip , of which only about 600 remained in all of Queensland by 1992. The park was recognized by the WWF for its success .
Another endangered species found in the park is the steppe runner .
The name Astrebla refers to a species of grass found in Australia.
In 2009 the area was hit by a severe plague of rats, which is expected to lead to increased immigration of feral cats, which in turn could endanger the population of rabbit-nosed whispers.
