The KULLA- (McIlwraith Range) -Nationalpark (English KULLA (McIlwraith Range) National Park ) is an approximately 1,580 square kilometer National Park on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland , Australia . It is administered by the local Aborigines together with the Queensland National Park Administration under the status of Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL).

The park is located in the Far North Queensland region and is 270 kilometers northwest of Cooktown and 210 kilometers southeast of Weipa . At Coen, two paths branch off from Peninsula Developmental Road into the park. In the west it borders on the Oyala Thumotang National Park .

Aboriginal

KULLA is an acronym for the Aborigines of the Kaanju, Umpila, Lamalama and Ayapathu. These four clans have historical references to the area of ​​the national park. Access to the area of ​​the River Massey, as far as it is in the park, is not permitted because of its importance for the Aborigines of the Umpila clan.

landscape

The mountain range of the McIlwraith Range with a length of 80 kilometers and an average height of 450 meters are the outstanding natural features. Furthermore, part of the park is in the former Mt Croll Range and the Running Creek landscape. At 842 meters, the highest point of the McIlwraith Range lies northeast of Coen. The rainforests in the park are considered to be the largest untouched by humans in all of Australia.
