The West Hill National Park (English West Hill National Park ) is a national park in Queensland , Australia, only 10.8 square kilometers .

location

The park is located in the Mackay region, approximately 725 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and 75 kilometers south of Mackay . The closest city is Sarina . From here you can reach the park on the Bruce Highway south. After about 50 kilometers you pass the national park between the two small towns of Ilbilbie and Carmila . There are no roads, hiking trails or other visitor facilities in the park.

The Kelvin and Cape Palmerston National Parks are in the vicinity, and Broad Sound Islands and Northumberland Islands off the coast .

Flora and fauna

West Hill National Park protects the estuary of three small rivers and a West Hill Island off the estuary . It has a diameter of about 2 to 3 kilometers and is overgrown with light eucalyptus forest. Mangrove forests line the estuary .

Some birds classified as worthy of protection find their habitat here, including the white-bellied sea eagle ( Haliaeetus leucogaster ), the predatory tern ( Hydroprogne caspia ) and the spectacled pelican ( Pelecanus conspicillatus ).
