The Macalister Range National Park (English Macalister Range National Park ) is a 56 square kilometer national park in Queensland , Australia . Since 1988 it has been listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site Wet Tropics of Queensland because of its natural beauty, biodiversity , evolutionary history and as a habitat for numerous endangered animal species .
location
The park is located in the Far North Queensland region , approximately 25 kilometers north of Cairns and 25 kilometers south of Port Douglas . In the west it borders directly on the Kuranda and the Mowbray National Park .
Terrain forms
Named after the Macalister Range , the park protects a rugged, forested landscape along the Queensland coast. Mount Charlie, at 880 meters the highest point in the park, lies on the watershed of the Great Dividing Range . It has the shortest distance to the coast over its entire length.
Flora and fauna
The national park was established in 2010 to protect the endangered cassowary ( Casuarius casuarius johnsonii ). Endangered masked dwarf parrots ( Cyclopsitta diophthalma macleayana ) and red owl ( Ninox rufa ) also live here .
Facilities
The park is undeveloped. There are no facilities or roads.
