The Blackwood National Park (English: Blackwood National Park ) is a national park in the east of the Australian state of Queensland .

location

It is 924 kilometers west-northwest of Brisbane , 180 kilometers south-southeast of Charters Towers and 15 km northwest of Belyando Crossing .

Terrain forms

The national park consists of gently rolling hills, which are occasionally interrupted by rock bars and sand or black earth areas.

climate

From October to March the days can get very hot. The average temperatures are then 31–35 ° C, but 40 ° C can also be reached. Occasionally there is rain in summer, which silts up the paths and sometimes makes them impassable. From April to September, the average daytime temperatures are around 27 ° C.

Flora and fauna

The park got its name after the blackwood acacia forests ( Acacia argyrodendron ). Also find Brigalow -Akazien ( Acacia harpophylla ), various species of eucalyptus and spinifex grass .

Many different animal species can be found in the park, which is a retreat and resting area for them. There are also over 80 species of birds.

Facilities

There are some hiking trails that are not regularly maintained and are therefore partly overgrown. Tents and pets are not permitted.

The park can be reached from or from Gregory Developmental Road , which it connects directly to the south.
