The Auburn River National Park (Engl. Auburn River National Park) is located in the Australian state of Queensland , about 410 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and 255 kilometers west of Maryborough . It covers 405 hectares and was placed under protection in 1964.

General

The Auburn River flows over large, water-shaped salmon-colored granite stones through the beautifully landscaped park, flowing through gorges with steep slopes and deciduous forests that are unusual in the region. The forests are open eucalyptus forests and drier rainforests . The eucalyptus forests dominate on the southern side of the river, the rainforests on the northern side.

This area is prone to earthquakes. The first earthquake recorded in Queensland was reported from Dykehead Station in 1878.

Flora and fauna

Dominant tree species are the eucalyptus melanophloia and Eucalyptus tereticornis , the so-called "ax breaker" Geijera paniculata because of its hard wood and the bottle tree species Brachychiton rupestris and Brachychiton australis . Along the course of the river, leptospermum and cylinder cleaners also grow over the rocky areas. Antler ferns of the species Platycerium veitchii are widespread on the trees.

A notable representative of the wildlife in the park is the peregrine falcon . Marsupials come e.g. B. the red rat kangaroo and the brush-tailed rock kangaroo in the park. Reptile species are u. a. the rainbow skink Carlia pectoralis and the gecko Strophurus taenicauda . There are a total of 15 endangered reptile species in the park. The Australian lungfish are also an unusual inhabitant of the rivers .

tourism
