The Gadgarra National Park (English Gadgarra National Park ) is an 82.7 square kilometer national park in Queensland , Australia . It is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland UNESCO World Heritage Site .

location

The park is located in the North Queensland region about 260 kilometers north of Townsville and 35 kilometers south of Cairns . The closest town is Atherton . From here you can reach the park via the Gillies Highway towards Gordonvale , about halfway there, the highway runs for a length of 10 kilometers within the national park. There are no visitor facilities in the park itself.

The national parks Crater Lakes , Wooroonooran , Topaz Road , Little Mulgrave and Danbulla are in the vicinity .

Flora and fauna

The park protects primary tropical rainforest that thrives along the eastern edge of the Atherton Tablelands plateau . It ranges from 50 meters above sea level, near the village of Goldborough in the coastal lowlands, to about 700 meters at the foot of Mount Bartle Frere . The tropical vegetation is home to a multitude of animals, over 80 different bird species have been observed, including the endangered Queensland Alangans ( Aerodramus terraereginae ) from the sailor family , the three-colored parrot finches ( Erythrura trichroa ) from the finch family and the diademed masked parrot ( Cyclopsitta diophthalma macleayana ) from the family of real parrots .

An endangered mammals in the park include the Queensland Breitfußbeutelmaus ( Antechinus godmani ), the Herbert River pseudocheiridae ( Pseudochirulus herbertensis ), the strip-ring tail Beutler ( Pseudochirops archeri ) and the spectacled flying fox ( Pteropus conspicillatus ).
