The Lindeman Islands National Park (English: Lindeman Islands National Park ) is a national park in the east of the Australian state of Queensland .

location

The national park is 885 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and about 75 kilometers north of Mackay . The Lindeman Islands are located south of the Whitsunday Islands National Park on the continental shelf in the Coral Sea .

The group consists of 14 islands, the largest of which is Lindeman Island itself. Other companies included Baynham Iceland , Cornston Iceland , Gaibirra Iceland , Triangle Iceland , Keyser Iceland , Little Lindeman Iceland , Maher Iceland , Mansell Iceland , Pentecoste Iceland , Seaforth Iceland , Shaw Iceland , Thomas Iceland and Volskow Iceland to this island group.

The national parks of Repulse Islands , Whitsunday Islands , Molle Islands and Smith Islands are in the vicinity ; on the mainland of Conway National Park .

geology

Like the Whitsunday Islands , the Lindeman Islands are of volcanic origin. Eruptions 110 million years ago created mountains in the area that later sank into the Coral Sea. The main island consists of cooled magma , the other, larger islands consist of granite . The small islands have a hard, volcanic core.

flora

On the islands you will find rainforest in the more protected places, otherwise sparse forest and grassland as well as wetlands . Frequent burning of the grasslands by the local Aborigines from the Ngaro tribe prevented the bush from becoming overgrown.

Facilities

There are campsites on Lindeman Island (Boat Port) and Shaw Island (Neck Bay). Permits are required for both places. Several hiking trails and an airfield have been created on Lindeman Island . The resort on Lindeman Island was  operated by Club Med until it was sold in 2012 . There is also a short hiking trail on Seaforth Island .

Driveway

The archipelago, 35 kilometers southeast of Shute Harbor , can be reached from there and from Airlie Beach by private or commercial boats.
