The Mitirinchi Island National Park (English: Mitirinchi Island National Park , formerly Quoin Island National Park ) is a national park in the northeast of the Australian state of Queensland .

The park is administered by the local Aborigines together with the Queensland National Park Administration under the status of Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL) . The park and island are part of the Great Barrier Reef .

It is 1,947 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and 50 kilometers northeast of Lockhart River .

In the vicinity are the national parks Forbes Islands , Ma'alpiku Island and Iron Range .

National nature

The almost vegetationless island lies in the middle of a large expanse of water and is surrounded by a coral reef .

fauna

Mitirinchi Island is an important nesting site for all types of seabirds. The island is covered all over with guano . The reef is also the rare find soups and turtles and a rich marine life.

Facilities and access

Entering the island is not permitted and there are no facilities, both to protect the breeding birds. However, you can take private or charter boats near the island and watch the birds.
