The D'Aguilar National Park (English: D'Aguilar National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland .
location
It is located 31 kilometers northwest of Brisbane .
The park consists of two separate parts. The southern part includes the former Brisbane Forest Park , which lies in the southern D'Aguilar Range , east of Lake Wivenhoe and Lake Somerset . The northern part consists of former state protected areas around Mount Mee , west of Caboolture .
history
The first national park in the D'Aguilar Range was founded in 1930 and was called Maiala National Park . It was established by a volunteer group called the Brisbane National & Recreation Park Committee . The area around Mount Nebo was called Manorina National Park . In 1973 thought began to be given to expanding the park to cover the entire area between Mount Coot-tha in the east and Mount Nebo in the west. After a number of difficulties and opposition, the Queensland Parliament declared an area of 25,000 hectares a state park in 1977.
Since 1938 there have been several smaller state protected areas around Mount Mee in the northern D'Aguilar Range - Mount Mee State Forest and Forest Reserve - totaling 11,000 hectares.
In 2009 these areas became the D'Aguilar National Park.
flora
Eucalyptus forest and subtropical rainforest can be found in both parts of the national park . New Guinea Araucaria plantations can also be seen in the northern part .
Facilities
The park has many hiking trails and a visitor center (Walkabout Creek Wildlife Center) on Mount Nebo Road . The latter includes a zoo with aviaries, aquariums and enclosures for the animals found in the national park.
