Caboolture

Caboolture is a city in southeast Queensland , Australia . Caboolture is about 50 kilometers north of Brisbane and about 130 kilometers south of Gympie . The city has about 26,000 inhabitants. Caboolture is considered the northern end of the Brisbane Metropolitan Area, but also the southern end of the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Until March 2008 Caboolture was the center and administrative seat of the Shire of the same name. After the regional elections in March, the Caboolture Shire was merged with the Shire of Pine Rivers and the City of Redcliffe and the Moreton Bay Regional Council was formed.

history

The area around Caboolture was traditionally inhabited by Aborigines . The name Kabultur is derived from the language of the Aborigines and means something like the place of the carpet python . This non-poisonous species of snake, along with many other poisonous species, is still common today in the suburbs and around the city.

In 1842 the land around what was then the Moreton Bay convict colony was opened for settlement by free settlers. Due to its close proximity to the convict colony, the area around Caboolture was one of the first to be settled by European settlers.

At that time the area was heavily forested. This was the basis of the first economic activity in the area. Particularly valuable cedar wood was cut down on a large scale until the 1860s and brought to Brisbane via the Caboolture River and Moreton Bay . There, as well as by the local settlers, it was used as a good building material that was readily available at all times.

Then in the 1860s there were big changes. The stocks of cedar wood ran out and agriculture gained in importance. Soon there were great successes in the cultivation of sugar cane , wheat and corn. Cattle breeding was also carried out successfully.

In 1867 the first small trading center was built. This served primarily to supply the settlers in the area. A short time later, the trading center gained in importance when gold was discovered further north in the area around Gympie. Numerous prospectors passed the area on their way from Brisbane to Gympie and used Caboolture as a supply station. A year later, the first regular service with horse-drawn carriages was set up, which also made a stop in Caboolture. In 1888 the rail link to Brisbane was opened.

present

After Caboolture was a sleepy town in the first half of the 20th century, it has seen rapid development since the 1970s.

With the expansion of the Bruce Highway and the railway line to Brisbane, Caboolture has become quickly and cheaply accessible for residents of the capital. A change in local laws also made it possible to develop inexpensive building land and to divide it into small plots for single-family houses. As a result of these factors, Caboolture gained many new residents who previously lived in Brisbane.

Unlike other places in the region Brisbane Caboolture special attraction has its close proximity to Brisbane on the one hand and the Sunshine Coast on the other. Caboolture has become the preferred place of residence for families who need to be close to the capital as a place to work, but who are also looking for close proximity to recreation centers or the coast.

Recently, Caboolture has gained notoriety as the hometown of singer Keith Urban . Urban was born in New Zealand , but grew up in a part of the west of Cabooltures.
