National nature

The area of the national park lies between the estuary of the Mary River and the Great Sandy Strait and is an example of natural heathland of the coastal plain, so-called wallum . The national park also includes two small islands. There are forests with different types of trees and mangroves .

The Great Sandy , Mount Bauple and Pipeclay National Parks and the Tuan State Forest are in the vicinity .

Flora and fauna

The Wallumheideland covered the entire coastal region before European settlement, but is now rare and worth protecting. There are also myrtle heaths (e.g. Melaleuca viridiflora ), mangroves and open forests with banksias and blue gum eucalyptus ( Eucalyptus tereticornis ). Especially endangered plants are the Boronia ( Boronia keysii ) and the Macrozamien ( Macrozamia Paul-guilielimi ).

Of the birds, the endangered parakeets , which have found their habitat in Wallumheideland, are particularly worth mentioning.
