The Venman Bushland National Park (English: Venman Bushland National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland . It is located 14 miles southeast of downtown Brisbane near Springwood , northeast of the Pacific Motorway .

history

Jack Venman (1911-1994) bought a square kilometer piece of land on West Mount Cotton Road in the Shire of Redland in 1954 . Large areas of this land had been cleared at the beginning of the 20th century. Venman paid £ 510 for it. At first he wanted to raise cattle there, but did not have enough money to raise cattle. In 1959 he got work elsewhere and the country gradually returned to its original state.

At the end of the 1960s, Venman discovered land surveyors on his property who wanted to redevelop the land. He put a stop to this, but now thought about the preservation of the area as natural bushland. He built hiking trails and picnic areas with grills and wooden chairs and tables. In 1970 he sold the land for AU $ 1 to what was then the Shire of Albert and stipulated the right to keep his house on the property. At the age of 73, Venman retired from maintaining this property.

Flora and fauna

A mixture of eucalyptus and myrtle heather forest with a considerable proportion of flowering undergrowth has developed on the land of today's park . The (mostly dry) Tingalpa Creek also has its source in the park .

Wallabies , koalas , fox cusus and short-headed gliders feel at home in this forest . At the water holes, which mostly only remain by the stream, you can find frogs , water rats and Australian water dragons .

Facilities and access

Camping in the park is not permitted. There are two landscaped trails, the Tingalpa Creek Circuit (2.5 km) and the Venman Circuit (7.5 km). Picnic areas with charcoal grills, firewood, and drinking water are also available.

The park is accessible from the Pacific Motorway (Exit 30). It's on West Mount Cotton Road .
