The Alwal National Park (English Alwal National Park ) is an approximately 425 square kilometer national park on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland , Australia . The park is administered by the Aborigines together with the Queensland National Park Administration under the name Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL) .
location
The park is located in the Far North Queensland region . It is located about 180 kilometers west of Cooktown and 380 kilometers northeast of Normanton . It can be reached via the Peninsula Developmental Road , west of the Hann River Roadhouse about 100 kilometers northwest of Laura . There is no access road or visitor facilities to the national park itself.
Terrain forms
Broken rocks, hilly plains, seasonal flood plains and patches of climbing thickets are some of the vegetation types that are protected in the national park. The western part of the park lies on the upper reaches of the Morehead River , which flows towards Rinyirru National Park .
Flora and fauna
In the national park are the habitats of many threatened or endangered plants and animals, such as the golden-shouldered parakeet ( Psephotus chrysopterygius ) also called Alwal , the namesake of the park, the Cape York rock kangaroo ( Petrogale coenensis ), the thresher ( Erythrotriorchis radiatus ) and the giant stork ( Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus ).
