The Mount Abbot National Park (English Mount Abbot National Park ) is only 13.78 square kilometers large national park in Queensland , Australia . It is used exclusively for scientific purposes and is closed to visitors.

location

The park is located in the North Queensland region about 975 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and 135 kilometers southeast of Townsville . The closest town is Bowen . The national park is about 50 kilometers west of it on the axis between the two places Gumlu and Collinsville .

The national parks of Mount Aberdeen , Conway and Cape-Upstart are in the vicinity .

National nature

The free-standing Mount Abbot is the highest elevation in this region with 1052 meters, which consists of granite and rises over 950 meters from the plain, which is crossed in the southwest of the park by the Bogie River , a tributary of the Burdekin River .

Flora and fauna

In the national park, the only occurrence of tropical cloud forest is in the region, around the summit of Mount Abbot. New Guinea Araucaria ( Araucaria cunninghamii ) grows on the slopes of both mountains. Dry forest can be found in sheltered places.

Some have as worthy of protection and endangered rated plant species habitat, including Ozothamnus Eriocephalus of the family Asteraceae (Asteraceae), Leucopogon cuspidatus from the family of heather plants (Ericaceae) and "Indian string Bush" ( Wikstroemia indica ) from the family of Thymelaeaceae (Thymelaeaceae ).
