The Russell River National Park (English Russell River National Park ) is a 54.2 square kilometer national park in Queensland , Australia . Since 1988 it has been listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site Wet Tropics of Queensland because of its natural beauty, biodiversity , evolutionary history and as a habitat for numerous endangered animal species .
location
The park is located in the North Queensland region , approximately 28 kilometers north of Innisfail and 45 kilometers south of Cairns . It includes the estuaries of the Russel and Mulgrave Rivers . The park can be reached via Bramston Beach Road, which branches off south of Mirriwinni from the Bruce Highway in an easterly direction to Bramston Beach . From here you can get to the national park in a northerly direction.
The Frankland Group , Wooroonooran , Eubenangee Swamp , Ella Bay and Moresby Range national parks are in the vicinity .
Facilities and access
The access, which is only possible with four-wheel drive vehicles, leads over the sandy beach, which is only 30 meters wide in some places. Bounded on one side by streams and freshwater lagoons, on the other by the Coral Sea . Here are also the five places where camping is allowed.
Flora and fauna
It is part of the Coastal Wet Tropics Important Bird Area . The park protects one of the few areas with pristine, coastal rainforest and mangroves .
