The Lochern National Park (English: Lochern National Park ) is a national park in the center of the Australian state of Queensland .

location

It lies 1,047 kilometers west of Brisbane and 100 kilometers southwest of Longreach in the valley of the Thomson River , part of the Channel Country .

The Goneaway , Welford , Idalia and Bladensburg national parks are in the vicinity .

National nature

The national park runs for over 20 kilometers along the Thomson River. Many water holes that are filled all year round are located in the park.

Flora and fauna

The area is mostly grassland. You can find all kinds of Mitchell grass there , but also mulga .

The permanent water holes offer retreat and resting places for water and migratory birds, as well as for other wild animals such as kangaroos .

Facilities and access

Wild camping is allowed at the Broadwater Waterhole , but there are no special facilities. There are no driving or hiking trails, but the entire terrain can be driven on with four-wheel drive vehicles or bicycles or even hiked.

The very remote national park can be reached via the Thomson Developmental Road ( Ban Ban exit , 100 kilometers southwest of Longreach). From the junction, a dirt road leads 40 kilometers west to the park on the banks of the Thomson River.
