The Curtis Island National Park (English: Curtis Island National Park ) is a national park in the east of the Australian state of Queensland .

location

It is 474 kilometers northwest of Brisbane , 40 kilometers southeast of Rockhampton and 30 kilometers north of Gladstone on the east coast of the island of the same name. The national park extends over the coastal areas from Black Head in the south to Cape Capricorn in the north.

The national parks Wild Cattle Island , Rundle Range , Capricorn Coast and Capricornia Cays are in the vicinity .

Flora and fauna

The park has coastal heather, coastal rainforest , sand dunes, beach ridges and salt flats . The rare giant stork ( Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus ) is also native here.

Facilities

There are no special facilities for tourists in the national park, but wild camping is permitted.

economy

At the southern tip of the island - south of the national park - tank and port facilities for shipping coal seam gas, including a gas liquefaction plant, were built.
