Gladstone is a port city in the Australian state of Queensland and is located on the east coast about 540 km north of Brisbane . It is the seat of the local administrative area of the same name (LGA) Gladstone Region Council .

The harbor, Port Curtis, was discovered at the beginning of the 19th century, but settlement took place much later. Gladstone was founded in 1863. The boom did not come until the 1960s when the aluminum industry settled there. The port became a large industrial port and now oil and chemicals are also processed in the city. Approximately 33,000 residents live in Gladstone today.

Ten kilometers northwest is a large industrial plant that Yarwun aluminum refinery of Rio Tinto Alcan , which employs 550 people.

The airport of Gladstone is located in the western suburbs and is about six kilometers from the town center. It is mainly served by Qantaslink and Virgin Australia. From May 2009 to 2011 the airport was expanded.

The Port of Gladstone is Queensland's largest multi-purpose port and the fifth largest multi-purpose port in Australia. Coal in particular is exported by him.
