It is located 821 km northwest of Brisbane and about 65 km west of Mackay .

From the Peak Downs Highway , turn 6 km north of Nebo onto the road towards Elphinstone / Glenden . After another 11 km, the Turrawulla Road branches off to the north , which leads into the national park.

National nature

30 million years ago volcanic eruptions covered older basalt layers with fresh lava. Over time, these new basalt layers eroded and the prominent rock pyramids, sharp rock ridges and protruding rock steps of the Denham Range and Mount Britton emerged . Gold deposits are also found in these mountains that make up the Bowen Basin - which flows through the Bowen River . Fossil remains from the Permian (225–280 million years old) are also coming to light.

flora

In Homevale National Park there is sparse, grassy forest as well as rainforest , soft, dry scrub, eucalyptus forests and areas with Brigalow trees ( Acacia harpophylla ).
