The Benarkin National Park (English Benarkin National Park ) is a 2.2 km² national park in Queensland , Australia .

location

The park is located in the South Burnett Region , 20 km northeast of Yarraman and 41 km southeast of Kingaroy . The D'Aguilar Highway runs right through the Benarkin State Forest to the south . There are visitor facilities such as picnic and camping sites along Emu Creek . The national park in the north, however, is not accessible.

Flora and fauna

High, light forests of blackbutts ( Eucalyptus pilularis ), tallowwood ( Eucalyptus microcorys ) and stringybark grow on the volcanic soils in the higher elevations. Various species of ironbarks dominate further below, with pockets with dry rainforest and dense undergrowth in between.

Numerous birds such as the green arboreal bird ( Ailuroedus crassirostris ), shield bird of paradise ( Ptiloris paradiseus ) and pittas live in this thicket . The endangered black-breasted chickens ( Turnix melanogaster ) live on the ground .
