The Kondalilla National Park (Engl .: Kondalilla National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland .

location

It is 91 kilometers north of Brisbane and 10 kilometers southwest of Nambour on the western edge of the Blackall Range .

history

The settler William Skene roamed this area in search of lost cattle. He called it the Bon Accord and later donated it to the Queensland government. They renamed it Kondalilla in the 1950s . This word means 'flowing water' in the local Aboriginal language .

In 1906 the area was officially declared a protected area. In 1945 it became a national park.

flora

Remnants of subtropical rainforest are protected in the park . You can find groups of Piccabeen palms ( Archontophoenix cunninghamiana ), Alphitonia , New Guinea araucarias and casuarinas , as well as eucalyptus and rainforests. Here is the easternmost location of the Queensland Araucaria .

The sensitive plant species Macadamia integrifolia also grows in the national park.

fauna

107 bird species find their habitat in the national park. The rare pocket frog ( Assa darlingtoni ) can also be observed.

Facilities

There is a large picnic area in the park with public toilets. Two hiking trails lead to the Upper Falls Swimming Hole . A longer circular hiking trail leads past the lower pool, which is not suitable for swimming. It is very exposed and can be hiked in about 2 hours.

Camping is not permitted in the park.

Driveway

The park is best accessed from Flaxton , a settlement east of the park. This settlement is located on the road connecting Montville to Mapleton . This road runs over the ridge of the Blackall Range and is designated Tourist Route 23 .
