The Basilisk Range National Park (English Basilisk Range National Park ) is a 22.1 square kilometer national park in Queensland , Australia . It is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland UNESCO World Heritage Site .

location

It is located in the North Queensland region about 200 kilometers north of Townsville and 90 kilometers south of Cairns . The closest city is Innisfail . From here you can reach the park on the Bruce Highway south. After 15 kilometers you pass the park between the two small towns of Moresby and Silkwood . There are no visitor facilities in the park itself.

The national parks Japoon , Kurrimine Beach , Tully Gorge , Clump Mountain and Maria Creek are in the vicinity .

flora

The park protects the higher areas of the Basilisk Range of hills of the same name . The peaks, which are up to almost 400 meters high and overgrown with primary tropical rainforest, have been largely spared from clearing and agricultural use in the past. Antrophyum plantagineum , an endangered species from the fern group, is also native here.
