The Cania Gorge National Park ( English Cania Gorge National Park ) is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland . It is located 373 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and 20 kilometers northwest of Monto on the Burnett Highway .

The most important sight in the small nature reserve are the 70 meter high sandstone cliffs in the Cania Gorge , through which the Three Moon Creek flows.

fauna

In the park you will find rock wallabies , Bettong , platypus , geckos and more than 90 different species of birds.

Culture

The rock carvings of the Aborigines are a sign of the settlement by the indigenous people at least 19,000 years ago.

Facilities

A picnic area is on the main road that connects the Burnett Highway to the park. Picnic tables, toilets and gas grills are available there.

Most of the hiking trails start at this picnic area, including the one to Dripping Rock 1.1 kilometers away , the one to The Overhang 1.6 kilometers away and the 1.3 kilometer to Bloodwood Cave. The longest hiking trail in the park starts at a small parking lot 500 meters south of the picnic area. The 5.6 km long path leads to the Giants Chair Lookout , from where you can overlook the gorge and the Fern Tree Waterhole , a constantly filled water hole. Another path leads visitors to an abandoned mine.
