The Eubenangee Swamp National Park (English: Eubenangee Swamp National Park ) is a national park in the northeast of the Australian state of Queensland .

location

It is 1,332 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and 12 kilometers northwest of Innisfail , east of the Bruce Highway .

National nature

The park consists of a flat hill and the depression of the Alice River , which build on nutrient-rich basalt subsoil . The lowland is mostly completely flooded in the rainy season , but does not dry out completely in the dry season either. From the hill you have a good overview of the swamp on one side and the mountains of the Bellenden Ker Range with the two highest peaks in Queensland, Mount Bartle Frere (1,622 meters) and Mount Bellenden Ker (1,593 meters).

Flora and fauna

The remnants of tropical coastal rainforest that used to grow in the entire area, the grassland and swamp myrtle heaths make the park area a biosphere reserve of international standing.

The swamp, which is filled with water all year round, is an important habitat, especially for water birds. The park is part of the Coastal Wet Tropics Important Bird Area , which was designated by BirdLife International for its importance for the conservation of the birds of the tropical coastal rainforest.

Facilities

A 1.5-kilometer hiking trail leads first along the Alice River and then up the flat hill.

Driveway

From the Bruce Highway ( Mirriwinni exit ) turn east onto Bramston Beach Road . After one kilometer, Cartwright Road turns south and leads to the park entrance.
