The Mount Aberdeen National Park (English: Mount Aberdeen National Park ) is a national park in the east of the Australian state of Queensland . It is 961 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and 40 kilometers southwest of Bowen .

The park consists of two separate areas. The eastern section of Mount Aberdeen with 1840 hectares was declared a national park in 1952, the western section Highlanders Bonnet with 1370 hectares in 1967.

The park has no special facilities and is not easily accessible to the public.

National nature

The two mountains Mount Aberdeen (901 meters) and Highlanders Bonnet (624 meters) are made of granite .

The national parks of Mount Abbot , Cape Upstart , Gloucester Island and Dryander are in the vicinity .

Flora and fauna

In the park is the only occurrence of tropical cloud forest in the region, around the summit of Mount Aberdeen. New Guinea araucarias grow on the slopes of both mountains. Dry forest can be found in sheltered places. There is also a symbiosis of red gum ( Eucalyptus tereticornis ) and tussock grass , which is otherwise unusual in Queensland .

The Queensland rock kangaroo , the eastern gray giant kangaroo , the mountain kangaroo , the pygmy marten and the koala have been observed in mammals in the park . Among the invertebrates, the Mount Elliot Gray Ant , an ant that can be found northwards from here, should be mentioned.
