József Borovnyák ; Slovenian Jožef Borovnjak; (Born February 9, 1826 in Ivanovci , Moravske Toplice , Kingdom of Hungary , now Slovenia; † September 19, 1909 in Cankova , now Slovenia ) was a Slovenian writer, politician and Catholic priest in Hungary . Borovnyák was the reformer of the Prekmurian literary language in the 19th century.

Life

Borovnyák was the son of the innkeeper István Borovnyák and Katalin Gombossy. He attended six high school classes in Kőszeg , the 7th and 8th grades in Szombathely , where he finished his studies in theology in 1851 and was ordained a priest on July 13th . Immediately after the ordination he was administrator in Apátistvánfalva next to Szentgotthárd for five months . Then he was chaplain in Lendava for two months and worked in Črenšovci until 1857 . Borovnyák was chaplain in Olsnitz ( Murska Sobota ) and Sankt Georgen ( Sveti Jurij , Rogašovci) until July 20th . Then he was appointed pastor of Kaltenbrunn, which he remained until his death. From 1893 he was also dean in Olsnitz.

Act

Borovnyák is the author of religious and political works. Among the organized literary projects, the most important are the editing of Miklós Küzmicss book Kniga molitvena (Prayer Book), Veliki katekizmus (Great Catechism) and two new prayer books . He was also the editor of the edition of the prayer book by József Kossics Jezus moje poželenje (Jesus my longing) and the edition of Küzmicss Gospels.

Borovnyák also achieved literary and cultural prestige through his work in the literary, mediation and cultural information field. As a nationally conscious priest, he became a subscriber to Prekmurian magazines in the early 1860s and soon also distributed them. Borovnyák was the distributor of Carinthian Mohors' books . With the personal announcement of cultural events on the other side of the Mur before the appearance of Ferenc Ivanóczy and his circle, he achieved an important literary and nationally conscious achievement. Across the Mur, he conveyed information about the work and life of Hungarian Slovenes to Styrian professional colleagues and other intellectuals .
