YZ group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The YZ group is a presumed group of Attic vase painters of the red-figure style .

Individual artists are difficult to grasp. The group got its emergency name from John D. Beazley who described the works of the YZ group as the latest tangible figurative works of the style. Analogous to the alphabet, “YZ” stands for the end of red-figure vase painting in Athens . The group must have been around the year 320 BC. Have worked. The exact end is unclear, as it is difficult to establish a chronology of the vases. Since there are not a few vases, it is possible that they were only produced briefly, but in large numbers. There are cupids , women and Niken shown. The tondi of the bowls are reminiscent of works from the early days of the century, but are more unclean and coarser in execution. In addition to bowls, askoi , pyxids and small lebetes gamikoi are also painted.
