The high-speed route Beijing – Guangzhou ( Chinese  京广 高速 铁路, abbreviation: 京广 高 铁 , Pinyin Jīng Guǎng Gāosù Tiělù, abbreviation: Jīng Guǎng Gāotiě ), or Jingguang Passenger Dedicated Line, abbreviation: Jingguang PDL ( Chinese  京广 客运 专线, Abbr .: 京广 客 专 , Pinyin Jīng Guǎng Kèyùn Zhuānxiàn, abbrev .: Jīng Guǎng Kèzhuān ), is one of the four north-south axes in the planned Chinese high-speed network and part of the high-speed line Beijing-Hong Kong . The route connects the capital Beijing with the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou and runs through the provinces of Hebei , Henan , Hubei , Hunan and Guangdong . About the 142 km-long Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link also is Hong Kong linked to this route. After the Shanghai – Kunming high-speed line , it is currently the second longest railway line in the world.

The line has been in operation since December 26, 2012. The travel time on the 2105 km long route could be reduced from twenty to eight hours with the high-speed trains with speeds of up to 350 km / h. After the Beijing – Shanghai high-speed line, it is the second north-south axis in the Chinese high-speed network to go into operation.

Route sections

Beijing – Wuhan high-speed line

Construction of the 281 km long Beijing-Shijiazhuang section began on October 7, 2008. On July 25, 2012, the tracks were laid. The Anyang – Zhengzhou section has been in trial operation since April 1, 2012, the Zhengzhou – Wuhan section since August 26, 2012. The Zhengzhou – Wuhan section was opened on September 28, 2012 Opened December 2012, which means that the route from Beijing to Guangzhou is in continuous operation.

Wuhan – Guangzhou high-speed line

On December 26, 2009, the 968.6 km long southern section between Wuhan and Guangzhou with 18 train stations went into operation. Construction began on June 23, 2005. A top speed of 394 km / h was achieved during test drives. Due to the difficult route morphology, 65% of the section between Wuhan and Guangzhou consists of bridges and tunnels. The construction of the 4,500 meter long Jin Shazhou tunnel under the Pearl River near Guangzhou was a particular challenge . The structure sometimes only has a six meter cover and had to be built in the middle of a populated area. The construction cost of the entire route was approximately 17 billion US dollars.

The route is driven at a speed of up to 350 km / h. China claims that it owns the fastest train in the world. Express trains without an intermediate stop need three hours and 41 minutes for the route between Wuhan and Guangzhou (as of December 2017) and thus reach a cruising speed of 263 km / h. Trains from the CRH2 and CRH3 series are used .
