Hengyang ( Chinese  衡阳 市 , Pinyin Héngyáng Shì ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Hunan . It lies on the Xiang Jiang . Administratively, Hengyang is divided into five city districts, five districts and two independent cities. Hengyang has an area of ​​15,302 km² and approx. 7.1 million inhabitants (2004).

Administrative structure

At the county level, Hengyang consists of five urban districts , five counties and two independent cities. These are:

  • Yanfeng District (雁峰 区), 93 km², 200,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
  • District Zhuhui (珠晖区), 227 square kilometers, 270,000 inhabitants;
  • Shigu District (石鼓 区), 112 km², 200,000 inhabitants;
  • Zhengxiang District (蒸湘 区), 111 km², 210,000 inhabitants;
  • Nanyue District (南岳 区), 179 km², 50,000 inhabitants;
  • Hengyang County (衡阳 县), 2,502 km², 1.12 million inhabitants, capital: Xidu Municipality (西 渡镇);
  • Hengnan district (衡南县), 2,621 km², 1.0 million inhabitants, capital: Yunji municipality (云集 镇);
  • District Hengshan (衡山县), 936 square kilometers, 410,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Kaiyun (开云镇);
  • Circle Hengdong (衡东县) 1,926 km², 670,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Chengguan (城关镇);
  • Qidong County (祁东 县), 1,871 km², 920,000 inhabitants, capital: Hongqiao Township (洪桥镇);
  • City of Changning (常宁市), 2,052 km², 820,000 inhabitants;
  • City of Leiyang (耒阳 市), 2,649 km², 1.22 million inhabitants.

Hengyang is the starting point of the new Huaihua – Hengyang line , suitable for mixed traffic , which was opened at the end of 2018 and allows traffic with freight trains up to 880 m long and weighing 4,000  t . In passenger traffic , it can be driven on at a top speed of 200 km / h .
