Shaoguan ( Chinese  韶关 市 , Pinyin Sháoguān Shì ) is a district-free city in the north of the Chinese province of Guangdong .

The administrative area of ​​Shaoguan has an area of ​​18,380 km² and about 2.96 million inhabitants (end of 2016).

At the county level, Shaoguan consists of three urban districts, two independent cities, four counties and one autonomous county. These are:

  • (1) Zhenjiang City District (浈江区), 523 km², 360,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
  • (2) District Wujiang (武江区), 682 square kilometers, 230,000;
  • (3) Qujiang District (曲江 区), 1,651 km², 300,000 inhabitants;
  • (4) City of Lechang (乐昌 市), 2,391 km², 520,000 inhabitants;
  • (5) Nanxiong City (南雄 市), 2,361 km², 460,000 inhabitants;
  • (6) Shixing District (始兴 县), 2,174 km², 240,000 inhabitants, main town: Taiping municipality (太平 镇);
  • (7) Renhua district (仁化 县), 2,223 km², 220,000 inhabitants, capital: Renhua municipality (仁化 镇);
  • (8) Circle Wengyuan (翁源县), 2,234 square kilometers, 380,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Longxian (龙仙镇);
  • (9) Xinfeng County (新 丰县), 2,016 km², 240,000 inhabitants, capital: Fengcheng Street District (丰城 街道);
  • (10) Ruyuan Autonomous County of the Yao (乳源 瑶族 自治县), 2,125 km², 200,000 inhabitants, main town: Rucheng municipality (乳 城镇).

Economy, tourism

In recent years Shaoguan has developed from a purely industrial city to a tourist city. In January 2002, Shaoguan was named one of the excellent tourist cities in the country by the State Office of the People's Republic of China.

In February 2018, 8 workers were killed in a steel mill in the city because of a gas leak.
