Zhaoqing (肇庆 市, Pinyin : Zhàoqìng shì ) is a district-free city in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong . Your administrative area has an area of 15,056 km² and approx. 4.08 million inhabitants (end of 2016). Approx. 784,000 people live in the actual urban settlement area of Zhaoqing (2010 census).
geography
Zhaoqing is about 90 km west of Guangdong's capital, Guangzhou . There it is located on the west river , which encloses the inner city area on three sides. To the north of it there are hills. On the opposite bank lies the urban district Gaoyao , which is itself part of Zhaoqing. The Xinghu (星湖, Sternsee) is located in the northern part of the actual inner city area.

history

Duanzhou is bounded by Gaoyao to the northwest, west and south and by Dinghu to the northeast and east. Duanzhou is made up of four street districts and two large parishes.
traffic
Zhaoqing is on the railway line from Guangzhou west to Maoming ; the station is on the north-western outskirts of the city. There are regular trains to Guangzhou, Maoming and Zhanjiang, and a daily train to Kowloon ( Hong Kong ).
The city is also on the highway from Guangzhou and Sanshui to Yunfu and Guangxi ; the highway passes Zhanjiang quite far south, but there is a separate slip road. Furthermore, the national road 321 crosses the city area. Guangzhou can be reached in 1.5 hours from Zhaoqing.
Zhaoqing has a newly built and modern port that is used for freight and passenger traffic. Hong Kong and Macau can be reached within 4 hours by regular ships .
Culture
The Mei'an Temple in Zhaoqing, which today houses the Zhaoqing Museum , the old city wall of Zhaoqing , and the stone inscriptions in the seven-star rock (七星岩 摩崖 石刻) are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic China .
Zhaoqing is known within China for its Guozhen Zong (肇庆 裹蒸粽). This is a special type of zongzi , pyramid-shaped sticky rice pouches that are wrapped in leaves and cooked for hours with mung beans , pork, salted egg, Chinese sausages, and mushrooms. These one-pound zongzi are eaten hot.
Another important cultural product from Zhaoqing is the Duanyan (端砚) rubbing stone . This grating stone has been extracted in the Duanzhou district since the Tang Dynasty . It is usually purple, but rarer and more valuable rub stones can also be green or white. Duanyan rubbing stones are valued by calligraphers for the delicacy and compactness of the stone. In addition, Indian ink is particularly pleasant to prepare and does not attack the brush.
