Heyuan ( Chinese  河源 市 , Pinyin Héyuán Shì ) is a district-free city in Guangdong Province in the southeast of the People's Republic of China . It has an area of ​​15,478 km² and approx. 3.32 million inhabitants (2002).

The Guifeng Pagoda (Guifeng ta, 龟峰 塔) in Heyuan has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-680) since 2006 .

The Heyuan Museum houses the world's largest collection of dinosaur eggs. The more than 10,000 eggs and egg fragments come from the Upper Cretaceous Period .

Administrative structure

The city of Heyuan is composed of a municipality and five counties:

  • Yuancheng District (源 城区), 365 km², approx. 310,000 inhabitants;
  • Zijin district (紫金 县), 3,619 km², approx. 790,000 inhabitants;
  • Circle Longchuan (龙川县), 3,088 km², about 860,000 inhabitants;
  • Lianping district (连平县), 2,025 km², approx. 370,000 inhabitants;
  • Heping County (和平 县), 2,311 km², approx. 480,000 inhabitants;
  • Dongyuan County (东源县), 4,070 km², approx. 510,000 inhabitants.
