Shanwei ( Chinese 汕尾 市 , Pinyin Shànwěi Shì ) is a district-free city on the Chinese south coast in Guangdong Province .
Administrative division
The city of Shanwei is made up of a municipality, an independent city and two counties:
- (1) Chengqu municipality (城区chengqu : the municipality is called "municipality"), 421 km², approx. 460,000 inhabitants (2003);
- (2) City of Lufeng (陆丰 市), 1,681 km², approx. 1.52 million inhabitants (2003);
- (3) Haifeng district (海丰县), 1,750 km², approx. 760,000 inhabitants, main town: Haicheng municipality (海 城镇);
- (4) District of Luhe (陆河 县), 986 km², approx. 290,000 inhabitants, main town: Hetian municipality (河 田镇).

Shanwei is a prefecture-level city on the Guangdong coast . It is about halfway between Hong Kong / Shenzhen and Shantou / Chaozhou . Adjacent prefecture cities are Huizhou in the west, Heyuan and Meizhou in the north, and Jieyang in the east. In the south it borders on the South China Sea .
climate
The climate in Shanwei is subtropical and oceanic. The average temperatures in January are 14.4 ° C and in July 28.1 ° C. The precipitation is 1930 mm / a. In the vicinity of Luhe , the annual rainfall exceeds 2600 mm and in many other parts of the city it exceeds 2000 mm, making it among the highest in Guangdong . There is no airport in Shanwei, but since 2013 there has been Shanwei and Houmen train stations in Haifeng County and Lufeng train station on the Xiamen-Shenzhen railway line in Lufeng city.

Important agricultural products are rice and potatoes. Fishing is also an important part of Shanwei's economy.
Shipbuilding, marine products and fishing accessories dominate the industry.
Shanwei is also a major producer of salt.
