Shanwei ( Chinese  汕尾 市 , Pinyin Shànwěi Shì ) is a district-free city on the Chinese south coast in Guangdong Province .

The city of Shanwei is made up of a municipality, an independent city and two counties:

  • (1) Chengqu municipality (城区chengqu : the municipality is called "municipality"), 421 km², approx. 460,000 inhabitants (2003);
  • (2) City of Lufeng (陆丰 市), 1,681 km², approx. 1.52 million inhabitants (2003);
  • (3) Haifeng district (海丰县), 1,750 km², approx. 760,000 inhabitants, main town: Haicheng municipality (海 城镇);

Shanwei is a prefecture-level city on the Guangdong coast . It is about halfway between Hong Kong / Shenzhen and Shantou / Chaozhou . Adjacent prefecture cities are Huizhou in the west, Heyuan and Meizhou in the north, and Jieyang in the east. In the south it borders on the South China Sea .

The climate in Shanwei is subtropical and oceanic. The average temperatures in January are 14.4 ° C and in July 28.1 ° C. The precipitation is 1930 mm / a. There is no airport in Shanwei, but since 2013 there has been Shanwei and Houmen train stations in Haifeng County and Lufeng train station on the Xiamen-Shenzhen railway line in Lufeng city.
