Xiao Yang

Xiao Yang ( Chinese  肖扬 , Pinyin Xiào Yáng ; born August 1, 1938 in Heyuan , Guangdong ; † April 19, 2019 in Beijing ) was President of the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China from 1998 to 2008 .

Life

Xiao Yang began studying law at the Chinese People's University in Beijing in 1957, graduating in 1962. He joined the Communist Party of China in and was from 1962 to 1969 teacher of political science and law at the Management School in the Autonomous Region of the Uyghur Xinjiang and subsequent 1969-1975 Secretary for Information of the Party Committee of Qujiang in the province of Guangdong . He was also a cadre in the Public Security Bureau from 1969 to 1975, as well as deputy director of the Qujiang Party Committee, and continued to teach law at the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. He then acted between 1975 and 1981 as secretary of the party committee, as chairman of the Revolutionary Committee and as a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Longgui People's Commune. He was also a member of the Standing Committee of the Qujiang Party Committee.

From 1981 to 1983, Xiao served as secretary of the Wujiang District Party Committee in Shaoguan City and deputy secretary of the Qingyuan Prefecture City Party Committee . In 1983, he moved to the judicial administration and was first deputy chief prosecutor and then from 1986 to 1990 chief prosecutor of the Guanhdong Province People's Procuratorate. He was also a member of the Guangdong Province Party Committee between 1986 and 1990. In 1990 he was at the same time Deputy Attorney General, Acting President and Editor-in-Chief of the People's Prosecutor's Office and also secretary of the magazine's party committee. In addition, he taught as a lecturer at the Chinese for Politics and Law in Beijing and as a professor at the Chinese People's University. He became a candidate for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCP Central Committee ) at the 14th Congress in 1992 .

As the successor to Cai Cheng , Xiao Yang became Minister of Justice of the People's Republic of China in 1993 and held this office until 1998, when he was succeeded by Gao Changli . He also became a member of the CCP Central Committee at the 15th Congress in 1997 and was a member of this body after his re-election at the 16th Congress from 2002 to 2007. In 1998 he succeeded Ren Jianxin as President of the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China . He was succeeded in 2008 by Wang Shengjun . He also became vice president of the Central Committee for Comprehensive Public Security Administration in 1998 and president of the Chinese Judges Association in 1999.

Xiao Yang died on April 19, 2019 in Beijing.
