Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China
The Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China ( Chinese 中华人民共和国 最高人民法院 , Pinyin Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó Zuìgāo Rénmín Fǎyuàn ) was established on October 22, 1949 and is the highest court in the People's Republic of China . Other courts have jurisdiction for the Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Areas . The Supreme People's Court is responsible for overseeing the jurisdiction of the Chinese people's courts in all instances. The People's Court is obliged to report to the National People's Congress ; the members, vice-presidents and the president of the court are appointed by the National People's Congress. President of the court has been Zhou Qiang since 2013 . The approximately 340 judges are appointed for a five-year term each; an extension is possible.
