Dong Biwu
Dǒng Bìwǔ ( Chinese 董必武 , W.-G. Tung Pi-wu ; born March 5, 1886 in Huanggang , Hubei Province ; † April 2, 1975 in Beijing ) was a Chinese communist politician during the Mao Zedong regime . In the 1940s he was called in Yan'an together with Wu Yuzhang , Lin Boqu , Xu Teli and Xie Juezai "the five elders" ( 延安 五 老 , Yánān Wǔ Lǎo ). From 1959 to 1975 he was one of the deputy chairmen alongside Song Qingling and, after Liu Shaoqi was expelled from the party , he was executive chairman of the People's Republic of China from October 1968 to January 1975 , until 1972 together with Song Qingling. The two’s term of office as deputy was the only time that China had two vice presidents at the same time.
