Another six trains will be pre-assembled in Japan and put together in kits in China; this type of production is called Completely Knocked Down . The remaining 51 units will be manufactured with Japanese technology transfer at Sifang Locomotive and Rolling Stock .

The CRH2C is a more powerful eight-part variant with six instead of four powered cars, which was built in two series of 30 trains each. The first series reaches a top speed of 350 km / h, the second a top speed of 380 km / h. Since 2008, five trains each have been in service from Wuhan and Jinan.

The first series will be used on the Shanghai – Nanjing and Shanghai – Hangzhou connections , the second series will be used on the Wuhan – Guangzhou – Shenzhen – Hong Kong , Wuhan – Guangzhou – Guangzhou – Zhuhai and Zhengzhou – Xi'an connections.
