Anyang ( Chinese 安陽 市 / 安阳 市 , Pinyin Ānyáng Shì ) is a district-free city at the northern end of the Chinese province of Henan . The city has around 5.74 million inhabitants (as of 2012), of which 782,167 ( Jan. 1, 2005 ) are in the three districts of Beiguan , Wenfeng and Yindu , the actual inner city. The old name is Zhāngdé (彰德). In the northwest of the city lies Yīnxū (殷墟; the "Ruins of Yin"), which was built in the 14th to 11th centuries BC. u. Z. was the capital of the Shang Dynasty and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006. During the excavations since 1928 , among other things, the oracle bones were found, on which there are preforms of the Chinese script.

The district-free city is located in the lowlands 500 km southwest of Beijing and covers 7,413 km². The average temperature is 13.6 ° C.
Anyang is made up of four boroughs, four districts and one urban district:
- Beiguan District (北 关 区), seat of the city government;
- Wenfeng District (文峰 区);
- Yindu District (殷 都 区);
- Long'an District (龙 安 区);
- Anyang circle (安阳 县);
- Tangyin County (汤阴县);
- Hua County (滑县);
- Neihuang County (内黄县);
- Linzhou City (林 州市).
