Zhoukou ( Chinese  周口 市 , Pinyin Zhōukǒu Shì ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Henan . It has a port on the Ying He River . The administrative area of ​​the city has a total area of ​​11,968 km² and around 8.95 million inhabitants (end of 2010). 308,360 people live in the actual urban settlement area of ​​Zhoukou (2010 census).

In 2010, Zhoukou City was nominated as the happiest city in Henan Province according to a survey organized by Chinese TV CCTV.

Administratively, Zhoukou consists of two districts, one urban district and seven districts. These are:

  • Chuanhui District (川汇区), 141 km², 370,000 inhabitants;
  • Huaiyang District (淮阳 区), 1,467 km², 1.36 million inhabitants;
  • Xiangcheng City (项 城市), 1,083 km², 1.18 million inhabitants;
  • Circle Fugou (扶沟县) km² 1163, 710,000 inhabitants;
  • Circle Xihua (西华县) 1,208 km², 910,000 inhabitants;
  • Circle Shangshui (商水县) 1,325 square kilometers, 1.18 million inhabitants;
  • District Taikang (太康县) 1,761 square kilometers, 1.35 million inhabitants;
  • Luyi district (鹿邑 县), 1,248 km², 1.16 million inhabitants;
  • Circle Dancheng (郸城县) km² 1490, 1.3 million inhabitants;
  • Circle Shenqiu (沈丘县), km² 1082, 1.23 million inhabitants.

In 1938 the city was destroyed by a dam burst caused by the army.
