Sanmenxia ( Chinese  三门峡 市 , Pinyin Sānménxiá Shì ) is a district-free city in the central Chinese province of Henan .

The administrative area of ​​Sanmenxia has an area of ​​10,475 km² and approx. 2.23 million inhabitants (according to the 2010 census). In Sanmenxia there is the Sanmenxia Dam , the first dam on the Yellow River . The peculiarity of Sanmenxia is that one fifth of the population is Christian .

In Sanmenxia there is the “Shihao Section of Xiaohan Route”, an archaeological site of a historic country road, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site as part of the entry “Routes of the Silk Road between Chang'an and the Tianshan Corridor” .

Administrative structure

At the district level, Sanmenxia consists of two urban districts , two districts and two independent cities. These are:

  • Hubin district (湖滨 区), 164 km², 280,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
  • Shanzhou City District (陕州 区), 1,763 km², 340,000 inhabitants, capital: Daying Municipality (大 营镇);
  • Mianchi district (渑池县), 1,421 km², 330,000 inhabitants, capital: Chengguan municipality (城关 镇);
  • Lushi district (卢氏 县), 4,004 km², 370,000 inhabitants, main town: Chengguan municipality (城关 镇);
  • City of Yima (义马 市), 112 km², 160,000 inhabitants;
  • City of Lingbao (灵宝市), 3,011 km², 720,000 inhabitants.
