The Beijing – Hong Kong high-speed line connects the capital Beijing with the southern Chinese city of Hong Kong in the People's Republic of China . This route connects the provinces of Hebei , Henan , Hubei , Hunan and Guangdong as well as Hong Kong to the capital.

It consists of the Beijing – Guangzhou high-speed line , also known as Jinggang PDL , which went into operation on December 26, 2012, and the Guangzhou – Shenzhen – Hong Kong Express Rail Link , which has been in operation between Guangzhou and Shenzhen since December 26, 2011 and opened between Guangzhou and Kowloon on September 23, 2018.

Route sections

Beijing – Wuhan high-speed line

Construction of the 281 km long Beijing-Shijiazhuang section began on October 7, 2008. On July 25, 2012, the tracks were laid. The Anyang – Zhengzhou section has been in trial operation since April 1, 2012, the Zhengzhou – Wuhan section since August 26, 2012. The Zhengzhou – Wuhan section was opened on September 28, 2012 Opened December 2012, which means that the route from Beijing to Guangzhou is in continuous operation.

Wuhan – Guangzhou high-speed line

On December 26, 2009, the 1068.6 km long southern section between Wuhan and Guangzhou with 18 stations was put into operation. Construction began on June 23, 2005. A top speed of 394 km / h was achieved during test drives. Due to the difficult route morphology, 65% of the section between Wuhan and Guangzhou consists of bridges and tunnels. The construction of the 4,500 meter long Jin Shazhou tunnel under the Pearl River near Guangzhou was a particular challenge . The structure sometimes only has a six meter cover and had to be built in the middle of a populated area. The construction cost of the entire route was approximately 17 billion US dollars.

The route is driven at a speed of up to 350 km / h. China thus claims to have the fastest commercially operated high-speed line in the world. Express trains without intermediate stops need just under three hours for the route between Wuhan and Guangzhou and thus reach an average speed of 313 km / h. Trains from the CRH2 and CRH3 series are used .

Guangzhou – Hong Kong high-speed line

On December 26, 2011, one year before the start of continuous operation in the direction of Beijing, the 102 km long section between Guangzhou South and Shenzhen North was put into operation.

On December 30, 2015, the section between Shenzhen North and Futian was added.

The section from Futian to Hong Kong opened in September 2018. The route ends at West Kowloon Station , which will be the largest underground station in the world when it opens.
