Rachel Ames (actually Rachel Kay Foulger ; born November 2, 1929 in Portland , Oregon ) is an American actress . She became famous for her role as Audrey Hardy in the General Hospital hospital series , which she played from 1964 to 2015. In older films up to 1960 she was also listed under the name Judith Ames .

Life

Rachel Ames was born Rachel Kay Foulger in Portland in 1929. She came to acting through her parents, mother Dorothy Adams and father Byron Foulger , both of whom were busy film and television actors. Rachel Ames moved the family to Los Angeles, where she attended University High School and then the University of California . Ames made her debut as an actress in 1949 and then appeared with her parents in a theater production of One Foot in Heaven at the Pasadena Playhouse .

Rachel Ames spent three years with Paramount Pictures , where she was a member of the Golden Circle, a group of talented young actors. Her first big film was The Youngest Day in 1951. In addition to several film appearances, Ames was mainly seen as an actress in various television series in the following years. She performed under the stage name Judith Ames until 1960 , before using her actual first name Rachel from then on .

In 1963 Ames played Ltn. Gerard's wife in the television series On the Run . However, the actress only achieved great fame in 1964 with her role as Audrey Hardy in the US soap General Hospital , in which until 2015 she appeared in a total of 53 episodes. Most recently, she was the longest-serving actress in the series. After leaving General Hospital , Ames ended her acting career at the age of 86.

Rachel Ames was married twice. In 1952 she married Jack Genung, with whom they have a child. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1968 Ames married the actor Barry Cahill , and in 1970 their daughter Christine was born. The marriage lasted until Cahill's death in April 2012.
