Rachid Koraichi

Rachid Koraichi (also Rachid Koraïchi ; * 1947 in Ain Beida in eastern Algeria ) is an Algerian painter and illustrator .

Life

Koraichi comes from a Sufi family . Since his youth he became familiar with the old, graphic texts of the Arab-Muslim tradition and got to know the rock paintings in the Algerian town of Tassili n'Ajjer . He began his studies in Algiers at the École des beaux arts d'Alger before he went to Paris to continue his studies at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris .

Since 1970 Koraichi's works have been seen all over the world. His drawings, in which Arabic calligraphy is very often used, illustrate more than a dozen publications by French and international poets.

Koraichi lives in Paris and in the old town of Tunis in Tunisia .
