Rachid Mimouni

Rachid Mimouni ( Arabic رشيد ميموني); (Born November 20, 1945 in Boudouaou ; † February 12, 1995 in Paris ) was an Algerian author, teacher and human rights activist .

Mimouni wrote novels about Algerian society in a realistic style. He was threatened by militants because he was acting against a movement that he described as the basis of archaic ideas, but which is irrelevant in today's world.

Life

Rachid Mimouni was born in Boudouaou to a poor family. He studied science at the University of Algeria and Montréal before becoming a teacher at the École supérieure du commerce business school. He was President of the Kateb Yacine Foundation. In 1993 he fled Algeria to France to escape the civil war and the murders of intellectuals. In 1995 he died of hepatitis .
