Horse Race (Gambling)
Horse Race and Racing Aces or shortly Racing is a simple game of chance with cards which as a UK pub is spread game. The game simulates a horse race on a small scale, the participants bet on the outcome of the "race".
The rules
Horse Race is played with 52 hands of French cards without jokers . One player takes on the role of the bookmaker ( banker ). He takes the package cards, the four sets of aces aside - these represent four racehorses - mixes the remaining pile and places after lifted was seven cards face up in a horizontal row on, these are the race track ( race track ) is Should. If five or more cards of the same color appear, the game is shuffled and a new row is placed (because this horse could not win, see below). The horses (aces) are at the start, the right edge of this picture is the finish line.
Now the bookmaker is calling for bets on the outcome of the race. The fewer cards of a single color are in the open row, the higher the chances of victory for the corresponding horse (ace). The odds depend on the number of open cards of this suit
- 0 cards: Evens ; d. H. 1: 1
- 1 card: 2: 1
- 2 cards: 3: 1
- 3 cards: 5: 1
- 4 cards: 10: 1
These odds are net odds : If you place around £ 1 in a 3: 1 bet, you will receive a profit of £ 3 in the best case; in addition, the £ 1 stake will be refunded, i.e. H. in the event of a win, the player receives £ 4 back.
The bets are placed to the left of the aces before the start of the race. When the bets have been made, the game master turns over the cards in the talon one by one, and each time the card is turned up, the ace of the color of the open card is shifted one place to the right. As soon as the eighth card of a suit is opened, the horse passes the finish line and the race is over.
The winners are paid out and a new race begins. The bookmaker's role changes after each race.
variants
The various descriptions of this game may differ. a. in the number of cards exposed before the bets were accepted. For example, John Scarne writes in Scarne on Card games that only six cards are placed face up and the finish line only has to be reached and not crossed (i.e. a horse wins as soon as the sixth card of the corresponding color appears in the race); shuffling the cards again if the track contains five cards of the same suit is then not necessary.
