Radcliffe is a city in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury , Greater Manchester , England . It has almost 30,000 inhabitants and is located in the Irwell Valley , 4 km southwest of Bury and 10 km northwest of Manchester . It borders Whitefield to the south . The disused Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal cuts through the city. Today it is predominantly characterized by residential areas; abandoned cotton industry buildings are often used by small businesses. The Radcliffe Tower is located in the city area.
