Radek Bejbl (born August 29, 1972 in Nymburk ) is a former Czech football player .
Club career
The Czech started his professional career in 1990 at the age of 18 at SK Slavia Praha . He quickly played his way into the starting XI. Radek Bejbl experienced his most successful season with the club in 1995/96. Slavia Praha became Czech champions and reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals. This brought great international attention to the entire team. Finally, the Czech was lured away by the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid .
With Atlético Madrid he had successes both nationally - he reached the Spanish Cup final twice - and internationally in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup, but Radek Bejbl could not win a title in Spain. After Madrid was relegated from the Primera División in 2000 , the defender left Spain after 105 championship games and 2 goals. Radek Bejbl went to France for the first division club RC Lens . In the second season at the French club, Radek Bejbl was rarely used, so that at the end of the 2002 season he returned to his home country for SK Slavia Praha.
However, Radek Bejbl was unable to follow up on past successes with the club and went abroad again in 2005. By then he had played 240 championship games for Prague and with 27 goals in the Czech league, he had also proven his ability to score goals as a defender. In 2005 the Czech finally moved to Vienna for the Austrian first division club Rapid Vienna . In May 2007, however, his contract with Rapid ran out, his contract was not extended. He moved to FC Slovan Liberec on a free transfer . Bejbl ended his career after the 2007/08 season.
National team
Radek Bejbl has so far completed a total of 56 international matches for the Czech Republic . However, he completed his first international game on January 4, 1992 for what was then ČSFR , and on April 28, 1993 he ran for the joint team of Czechs and Slovaks, RCS. Bejbl had already played in Czechoslovakia's junior teams in his youth.
The greatest success as a Czech national player was reaching the European Championship final against Germany in 1996 . During this tournament, the defender also scored his first goal for the Czech Republic - the 2-1 winner against Italy .
