Kartini
Raden Adjeng Kartini (born April 21, 1879 in Jepara , Central Java , Dutch East Indies ; † September 17, 1904 in Rembang , Java ) was an Indonesian women's rights activist who is still perceived as a pioneer of the Indonesian women's movement .
Life
Raden Ayu Kartini was a Javanese princess and was privileged to attend school. She spoke fluent Dutch and received her education in the Netherlands . In 1903 she founded a girls' school , open to all Indonesian women, regardless of their social status. It was a breakthrough in Indonesian education. Raden Ayu Kartini campaigned against polygamy and is considered one of the greatest national heroines in Indonesian history.
Honors
Kartini's birthday has a semi-official holiday character and is celebrated in schools across the country as Kartini Day ( Indonesian Hari Kartini ). A crater of Venus is named after her.
