Rafael Guillén
Rafael Guillén (born April 27, 1933 in Granada ) is a Spanish poet of the generation of 1950, winner of the Spanish literary prize Premio Nacional de Literatura from 1994 and one of the most important writers of his generation. Within his many years of artistic work, his outstanding role should be emphasized, through which the lyrical tradition in Andalusia regained importance after the devastating consequences of the Spanish Civil War. His work Moheda (1979) surprises with its innovative and informal style in the syntax . Its themes are not shallow: love and eroticism are mixed up with the lament of the inevitable denigration of time. His prose includes travel stories, autobiographies, essays, lectures, and articles.
biography
Rafael Guillén was one of the poets who with the group “Versos al aire” and the book collection “Veleta al sur” (1957–1966) revived the lyrical and literary events of the post-war period in Granada. In 1994 he was awarded the Spanish National Prize for Literature for Los estados transparentes . In the same year he reached the final round for the Premio-Nacional-de-la-Crítica-Preis and together with other writers from Granada he laid the foundation stone for the Acadamia de las Buenas Letras de Granada, which was finally run in 2001 by the Junta de Andalucia Founded. In 2003 he was awarded the Premio de la Critica Andaluza. Prior to that, he had received important prizes of his time such as the Leopoldo Panero Prize in 1966, the Guipúzcoa Prize in 1968, the Boscán Prize in 1968 and the City of Barcelona Prize. He is also in possession of the Medal of Honor of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Granada. A significant moment in his literary work was the publication of his three-volume oeuvre Obras completas by Almed-Verlag.
In 2014 Rafael Guillén donated his private library and archive to the Biblioteca de Andalucía, which is based in Granada and belongs to the regional administration Junta de Andalucía. In the same year he received the 11th edition of the Poetry Prize Premio Internacional de Poesía Federico García Lorca. Many of his poems and articles have been translated into several languages.
